November 9, 2007: The Edward G. McDowell Travel Grant is one of the Art Students League's highest honors. Ariel won it in 2005 and spent 5 months traveling in Europe. March 10, 2007: My MacDowell grant trip was a great experience. I travelled by euro rail to Paris, Madrid, Rome, Florence, Venice, Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, Amsterdam and London and saw wonderful masterpieces everywhere. Some of the highlights were seeing Velasquez's paintings at the Prado, the Hugo Van der Goes triptych at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the Van Eyke triptych in the Sint-Baafskathedral in Ghent. The art was beyond what I could have imagined.
Back in New York City, I am finishing several commissions and, as always, creating new work. i'm excited about a series of small figurative paintings, some of which I will be showing on my web site in the near future.
May 6, 2006: Traveling in Europe. I just got back from Madrid. I am currently staying in Paris on Rue de Fauborg Saint Honore and will be traveling by train through Tuscany to Rome next week.
